The Academic IELTS exam is designed to test all levels of English ability and,
being an academic exam, tends to use complex reading texts. As a result,
you will almost certainly see a lot of words that you are unfamiliar with.
In general, the golden rule here is IGNORE UNKNOWN WORDS. There’s no
reason to waste any time thinking about the meaning of unknown words
UNLESS THEY FORM PART OF A QUESTION OR AN ANSWER.
In situations where you do need to think about unknown words however,
there are a few different strategies you can use to try to guess.
