Cheer up – to increase your level of happiness
“She was in hospital so I sent her some flowers to cheer her up.“
Bring up – Help a child to develop (usually passive voice)
“I was brought up by my mother and father.’
Grow up – to change from a young child to an older person (active voice)
“I grew up in a small village in Wicklow.“
Put up – To increase the price of something.
“Dublin Bus put up their prices.“
Back up – to back up a point / to back someone up in an argument – To support them and strengthen them
“In my presentation, I had lots of statistics to back up my points“
Do up – to make a house or room look better. To decorate
“We bought some paint and a few things in Ikea to do up our sitting room.”
